I. Introduction The International Baccalaureate (IB) program has undergone a significant transformation in its mathematics curriculum in 2021, expanding from three courses to four.
Some classes are notoriously hard such as Mathematics HL and Physics HL, so making sure to pick the right HL subjects is important for your overall success in IB. Just as importantly, SL classes need to be "easy" points and shouldn't create as much of a burden as HL classes.
International Baccalaureate (IB) Mathematics Higher Level (Math HL) students must thoroughly study algebra, calculus, functions and equations, circular functions and trigonometry, matrices, vectors, statistics, and probability.
Dont do not even think about it unless you are really really good at maths and enjoy it a lot. I got a level 9 in my maths gcse, and my teachers recommended me to take it. Right now its my biggest struggle in IB, the questions in the exams are waaaay to quirky and the grade boundaries are high.
Clearly, Maths SL or Maths HL are more difficult courses, but by the letter of the law, this one is included in our 'hardest' IB subject combination! Group 6: Arts (or additional Group 1-5 course) Visual Arts HL - Average Score: 4.26. Visual arts rounds out our 'hardest' IB diploma.
Like almost all high school math courses, Math HL doesn't focus on proof and is very calculation heavy. This means that having a lot of practice ("grind") can get you a good mark, like a 6 or 7. It was relatively easy for me. I completed AP Calculus BC before IB HL.
